Engine installation problems

Does anybody have some tips on installing engines? I'm finally trying to drop in my rebuilt engine in my 90 TII, and the stupid thing just won' go in. The transmission input shaft isn't sliding in as it should. I had the same problem putting the tranny back in when I changed the clutch.

So, any tips?

Make sure the clutch is correctly lined up.. You might need to buy an alignment tool for this..

Then just put it in.. sometimes you need to just rock the engine back in forth... You can be pretty firm with it & not have to worry about damaging anything.. it will go in...

KEEP TRYING! I think that is always the hardest part. keep trying it and it will eventualy slide in. Sometimes they don't acutal slide in they just like click once but there is still like half an inch then put a bolt in and SLOWLY tighten it down. It should just pull it in, not force it in. Hope this helps. And ya you need the clutch alignment tool.

Make sure the transmission is in gear. Helps.
Make sure the centerline of the engine and transmission are the same.
The part about the three dollar clutch alignment tool also.
If your pretty darn sure you are aligned, have someone turn the front pulley shaft back and forth while applying rear pressue on the engine.

Im no mechanic, but, isnt it bad to turn the crank shaft counter clockwise? just a rule of thumb i always heard to only turn them the direction that the engine turns. like i said, im no mechanic, just something i heard. Good Luck
