engine harness wrap and protect.

Hello,
it is the main engine harness on my fd3s I want to fix and protect it against heat and usage.
Can you please suggest something?
The harness has many smaller ones that comes out in every 5 in so the pcv is too hard ti fit.

The braided sleeving it seems a good idea but is heat resistant? Is this strong protection to heat?

iny ides or how to s?

Please suggest what to do
Thanks

Look up "heat tape". Here's an example:

hi,
can i use this tape in small harness too? there are many smaller harnesses that comes out from the main. is this tape too hard to wrap those smaller wires? have you used it?
thanks!!!

I haven't used that specific tape, but I did re-wrap most of my harness with a different heat tape. The kind I used was similar to this:

http://www.keefeperformance.com/silicone_tape.html

You can use it on any size wires, but it becomes a little difficult to use with less/smaller wires.

thanks,
do i use both the silicone and then the metal tape?or only the silicone?

Just use one or the other, not both.

hi Guys,
i removed the unused wires and checked the other connections too. i found that the black connectors are TYCO and i am still searching for the others (ISC and Water- Fuel temps) .
i need your help again on how to rewrap the harnes. i ordered the DEI silicon tape to use.
when i remove the old wraping i saw that there is
1)a vinil protection first to hold the wires
2)then the vinil is wraped with tape.
3)when the width is increased an extra spiral tube added
Do i need this vinyl beneath the DEI silicon tape and the spiral after the DEI tape??

thanks!!!

so this is what i did i bought some heat wrap and rewrapped my new engine harness

so the story goes i bought a 95 rx7 drove home and noticed some rough idle so i went back the next day to the dealership where i bought the car and they said that they would have the car looked at and it was taken to 3 dealerships and in the end it turned out it had a blown apex seal so it got a new engine

i got a reman (short block- they suck cause you have to transfer every thing to the new 1) from mazda and when i took the engine out i noticed that the old harness was hard and cracking and 2 connectors were broken off. so i ordered a new harness and to prevent the harness from future damage i bought the heat tape and re wrapped it and came out pretty nice i also noticed that the ends of the heat wrap were separating from the harness so i rewrapped it with electrical tape.

the heat wrap is a good idea but mazda did not compensate for a heat wrap tape so its a extremely tight fit( thats what she said lol) and if you are putting in a harness you might as well switch out all the vacuum lines. which i did and its very tight fit you also need to keep an eye on the vacuum line when you install the surge tank because with the heat wrap, the vacuum lines and the harness and the connectors you realli have to double check everything and make sure that nothing gets pinched.
