Engine balancing questions.

does the front counter weight balance the rotors, or does it require the flywheel to.

the reason i ask is because i have asked a couple people, some of them being reputable engine builders, and i have gotten several differant answers.

I have been told that the front counter weight balances the rotors, and the flywheel (second gen turbo) is self balanced. therefor you COULD do something like use the front counterweight of a truck, the rotors of a truck, the flywheel of a turbo II, and everything should be balanced out correctly.

does anyone with experiance disagree with this.

A proper balance uses both front and rear counter weights and the entire rotating assembly.

if you are using normal balancing equipment then first make the wieght of the rotors the same then start the run on the machine. Then as the results come up on the printout/screen take wieght off of the front counterwieght or flywheel. I had trouble balanceing the last motor I had at the shop. Check the E-sfaht for warpage that was the problem I was having and it cost me a days work.

Oh yeah I forgot about the rear counter wieght missed a step. you balance the rotating assembly with out the fly whell first then add it after you balance with just the counterwieghts. I know most people dont do it this way but it seem to make the engine run more smoothly
