Which engine is this?

What rotary engine is this? a 13b?

If I could get some links to detailed engine builds, I would really appreciate it. 13b if possible, I'm not sure of the differences and how to tell apart the different makes of the rotary.

If anyone could point this out to me as well it would be appreciated too. Thanks.

Anyone have a detailed build of a 13b they could show me? Part by part build, pictures, etc etc, or a list of names for parts that go into a 13b engine so I can google them myself?

bump for someone to help me

Your best bet is to just search the forum and you'll come up with most of it. Your question is asking a lot. To start you off, there is a difference in engines for each generation they made it, then there is a difference between the Japanese spec engines and U.S. spec engines. 13b's are similar but 12A's have smaller rotors and what not. This should get you going but your asking for a book of knowledge in a blog post.

I don't care if it's US or Japanese spec, I just mainly need part info, pictures, etc etc... I'm thinking about buying a repair manual for the FC.

There are a lot of parts so a repair manual might help. You can also buy video sets that explain the tear down and rebuild of a rotary. A while back there was a post where someone had a link to the Mazda mechanic's manual which is helpful, but I can't remember where it's at.

DIY-RE

"DIY-RE 13B is a 4 disc box set covering all the steps required to rebuild the popular Mazda 13B Engine. Also included in the set (after registration) is a data sheet with the Mazda part numbers for replacement parts and an easy to follow wall chart with diagrams for when you are actually working on the engine, including all the necessary tolerances and measurements."

I would recommend the series for a novice but it does cost about $100

okay, i'll bite ...

your basic 2-rotor engine will have:

3 moving parts

2 rotors
1 eccentric shaft

5 housings

2 rotor housings (reason should be obvious)
3 side housings (these are frequently called "irons" by people, to the point where some don't even know they are called "side housings" - but that's for another time)

as with just about any engine, reciprocating or rotary, there is a:

front cover
oil pump
oil pickup
etc...

about the only other thing that you NEED to know right now is that the rotors have seals that must be assembled before the rotor can function.

every seal operates by tension/pressure, provided by 1 (and sometimes 2) spring(s). the seals are:

apex (3 per rotor)
side (6 per rotor)
corner (6 per rotor)
oil (2 inners and 2 outers per rotor)

that should be more than enough for you (or anyone else interested) to search amd find pictures and information on the details of function.

also, i have a thread from a few years ago that showed some parts of a 12A build i did. the basic difference between 12A and 13B is the 13B rotors are 10 mm widers (80 mm). there are detail differences, but there's no need to go into them here. you should be able to find my thread in the General Tech section (keywords: streetport, 12A*).

hope that helps

just to add something here ...

getting a repair manual is fine if you plan to tackle a leisure/ fun project in the future, but if you're looking to get your daily driver running or something critical and time-sensitive, i'd advise having someone with experience do it, or at least present while you're working because based only on your questions/requests - you're not ready. it really isn't hard to build one, but you need to have a basic and solid working knowledge of the motor to avoid simply assembling something that will kill itself in short order if it even fires at all.

just my $0.02
