dropped a screw...

just got a 93 rx-7 and i was going to look at what air filter there was and i dropped the screw from the stock air box down into the car somewhere... i don't know what to do. it was the screw on the front left side of the air box and i dropped it front of the air duct in a small opening. what should i do?

also, anyone know the thread size if i can't find it? and will it cause any problems?

If it did not drop down in to the actual airbox, I would not worry about it. Find a suitable replacement (it will be metric, just use your fancy dancy thread and diameter gauge- cause everyone has one) and buy a new one. Remove a bolt that fits in that location and take it with you.
If the bolt is somewhere in the airbox, you need to find it. Tako e out all of the airbox if you need to. If its possible for it to be in the airbox or TID, past the air filter, then it is possible for it to be sucked/fall into the turbo during acceleration/braking/cornering or whatever. This would result in severe turbo damage and more than likely sever eninge damage. FIND THAT BOLT if it can get into your turbos...

no. it fell in front of the air box not into it... how many bolts hold the top of the air box on anyway? i thought i saw just two.

There are three bolt that hold the top of the air box on. While you have the top off why not up grade to an apexi intake kit $188. for it isn't bad it ussaly cheaper than the hks and folws better.

i don't have the top of the air box off... there must be two bolts and one screw holding it on b/c i unscrewed the one screw and when it fell i got real pissed and stopped trying to get the rest of the air box off. is that intake system you named just an air box? thanks

I'd say you should give the lil' screw a whoopin' for runnin' away on ya. . .

Seriously though, get one of those extensions with a magnet on the end. ( I have a Craftsman) They are actually quite handy. You'd be sure to find it with one of those.

Good Luck,
Derek

Check the bottom pan.

You also might want to check around your radiator (if its a 3rd gen) just to make sure that the fan blade wont find that bolt in its path which might mess your radiator up. Takeing the air box off is easy, just undo all the hoses in the back of it and undo the top part of the box... then the bottom, then have a look around and see what you cant find b/c I think it probably would have landed in the plastic shield thingy between the shield and your radiator fan. if its not there its on your skid plate. (I've dropped many screws in that area :p:
Happy hunting
