Dowel o-ring substitute
 

Has anyone located a suitable replacement for the $8 dowel o-rings? I can't help but think a nitrile o-ring of the same size could be sourced for a fraction of the cost and work just as well. Are the stock units nitrile? Am I missing something?
I realize it's not a huge deal but every little bit helps. I would prefer to spend the money elsewhere. :)

By spending your money elsewhere...I hope you mean like not on the rebuild that may ensue by using a bad o-ring?

I mean seriously. I understand where you are coming from. But $8? If you didn't buy all of your other seals you should have gotten the packaged deal.

Yeah, $8 x 4. Instead of Spending $32 on 4 measly o-rings I sourced 8 near perfect replacements for about $30 less. These have been tested and found to work great by a friend of mine whom used to rebuild for a living.
I choose to look at it as though I'm getting my front and rear main seals, rear gear o-ring, and nearly half my tension bolt seals for free :)
If a rebuild is necessary because of a bad o-ring it will cost me nothing but my spare time. I'll welcome the added experience.
