Did I Get Taken ???

I purchased a 88 rx7 10th anniversary car and have been restoring it. When I got it the engine ran fine. I did a lot of things like brake calipers, air, and other things, then sent it off to a body shop for a $2000 paint job. I got it back this week and had my wife take it in for an oil change today since we had no idea when it was last done. She killed it when she got back and it wouldn't start. After setting for a while it started but now it doesn't idle correctly. The RPM bounces back and forth from about 1300 rpm to 1700 rpm. Paperwork shows that the transmission was worked on a couple of years ago and that a compression check was done on it which showed it to be good at that time. Since then the car was supposedly in storage. (a lot of things she has told me weren't true though)

Is it possible that the car was filled up with STP or something to make the compression better and run better and now that the oil is changed the problem shows up? I had a 87 Turbo once that wouldn't start when it was hot because of a compression problem.

Any guesses or clues?
Thanks in advance
Wes

I doubt the engine just gave up. Sounds like an issue with the TPS, or some other sensor. That's an old car, keep in mind that things are going to break or go bad out of the blue.

I agree with Adjusting the TPS, that can throw the idle off, and it can be a fairly easy fix if you know what you are doing.

Try this.
