Custom Exhaust

Has anyone here made their own? What parts are needed and how much did it cost you?Any info will be appreciated.

i havn't finished mine yet but I intend to use a racing beat DP going into a magnaflow 3"in/dual 2.5" out and route that to my stock mufflers until i can afford new ones. however, i'm not sure how long the magnaflow will last.

I want to go single....what would I need.

for that, i would buy a downpipe from somewhere, buy a good muffler for out back and if you want, a presilencer. and get a muffler shop to weld it all together. should be easy.

you could always run one pipe all the way to an aftermarket muffler, but be aware that it may be too loud for some. if you want to use a "presilencer", make sure you select one with good inards such as SS or ceramic packing. some mufflers have fiberglass packing and won't last long at all.
single exhaust is definately less expensive, but i have to see two pipes.

What if the muffler had a silencer though?I was planning on getting a Top Fuel,5Zigen or Apexi N1 catback system and going from there. How much is a down pipe or can I just skip it for now.Im on a money budget so I can't get the down pipe/pre silencer. How much is a down pipe and pre silencer? Is there any way to get it hooked up without buying the extras?

well, racing beat sells a 2.5" down pipe that is supposed to bolt right up to stock exhaust. i think it mates up to the main cat. if you get a catback then all you'll need is a test pipe to get rid of your main cat. or if you'd prefer, you can put another muffler/presilencer where the main cat is.

well, just went to racing beat and they have a downpipe/presilencer combo that bolts up to turbo and stock y-pipe for $245. says increases hp by 26 on 87 T2. and since the catback replaces the y-pipe, then you have your new exhaust right there. get the RB combo and whatever catback you want. personally i think 245 for the combo is a good deal.

I dont have a stock system on it now and its single.Cant I just make a custom pipe that goes from the catback all the way through the exhaust? Then when I have the money get a downpipe and all that stuff.

Do you want it to pass smog??
well i don;t mind..living in cali..
Well i say use a downpipe then buy a flange you could weld the custom system onto..
then use atleast 16 gauge mild steel or stainless mandrel bent. 3"-3.5" dia. piping..
use a single muffler i say a good name brand one since youre gonna save on already made systems..
say a 3.5 inlet to a 4 inch tip.. stainless steel ..
sound good??

I agree...smog issues have to be delt with so you know which way to go. On my 2nd Gen with a T04, I have a 3" downpipe with a custom 3" Thermal R&D 12" long muffler used as a presilencer (looks like the RB 3" Turbo exhaust.) I had a Greddy PE and it was quiet as hell...I plan to go single exit when the car is on the road again.
