Custom charge pipes

hey i'm just about to start my next project which is front mounting my tmic so that i can run my stock gxl hood. A lot of people seem to use aluminum or stainless for their charge pipes but are there any draw backs to using steel? maybe exhaust tubing? i don't have the equipment to weld stainless so i think steel is my best option. any comments or bits of advice?

I've seen people use trampoline frame pipe, main drawback I see would be weight? But why not make a mock up of what you need and take it into a shop to weld up for you?

I've seen a decent amount of guys use mild steel for intercooler piping. There's definitely nothing wrong with it and the only drawback is that it is a little heavier than aluminum. I know the previous owner of my car had made the intercooler piping out of mild steel and it did fine. The car lived in New Jersey and was definitely driven in the winter, plus a winter here in Chicago and there is no rusting on the piping or anything like that.
