cruise control malfunction

My cruise control just died on me. I own a 1994 rx7 and have the complete shop manual for it. I walked through all the steps in the manual to troubleshoot the problem. Everything I did in the tests says that the cruise control is working properly. The problem is, when I go take it for a drive and try the cruise, it doesn't work. The only thing I see when I hit cruise control is the cruise light turn on for less than a second, and then go off........

Has anyone run into this problem before? Could it be a dead cruise control unit?(the diagnostics will also flash a code for a malfunctioning cruise control unit, but it did not flash).......please help.....

thanks in advance

Check the speed sensor input to the cruise brain. It only works while the car is moving. If the car isn't moving fast enough the cruise won't work, even though everything else tests out okay.

thanks for your reply

one of the steps in the troubleshooting procedure includes driving the car over 25mph AND at the same time checking the diagnostic codes.....once i got the car over 25mph, the code started blinking, and this says that the speed sensor is working properly.....

i also checked(applying B+ to see make sure the pulley pulls and releases) the actuator and that seems to be working as it should. i'm beginning to think it's the cruise control unit.

thanks again for your input,

yep sounds right... well that all I could think of off the top of my head that might not have been checked.

yep I agree next I would be trying a replacement brain.

I am assuming that when you checked the actuator that it did pull the throttle, and that there isn't a busted cable.
