lets say you turn off the engine in the middle of a combustion cycle, what happens to the gas sitting in the chamber?

The Keebler Elves come and take it away to bake into "Fudge Stripe" cookies...

Ummm I'd imagine the gas just sits there and eventually evaporates.

It's not like the engine locks up when you turn it off. If there is a combustion cycle then it is going to finish and its inertia will probably spin the motor several times before it comes to a stop. Even if you stall your engine by holding down the brake and dropping the clutch, that breif, violent shaking you feel is the last of the combustion cycles escaping.

I've never said this before, because I'm all about learning and kindness, but that was a stupid question and wargasm provided an incredibly stupid answer.
