Cas..'..'
so I have a 86 13b with a carburetor, the previous owner put the 1985 distributor with vacuum advance and coils on the car. I need to know if I get a 1988 rx7 13b cas and coils, will I need an ecu or anything other then cas and the coils that come with the cas? Im making the trip to the junkyard today and need to know. also will cas work with a carburetor? |
good luck at the junkyard, i hope you have a lead on one already at a yard. for the rest, does the car still have the 86 ECU installed? if not, then yes you will need that also, i'm not 100% sure that the N327 from the 88 will work since there was minor changes to the fuel system on the 88 but im thinking it probably would.

You'd need the CAS, the coils, the wiring, the computer, and I am pretty sure you will need the MAP sensor ("boost sensor") and possibly you'd have to plumb the airflow meter in before the carb. Also the coolant temp sender in the water pump. Maybe have to put a TPS on the carb.
The CAS isn't a "distributor-surrogate", it's just one of many inputs that the computer used to control fuel and spark. Now you at least understand why someone put a distributor in the car when they converted it to carburetion. |
