car will not fire up at all

my car has been sitting for quite some time now. i just drove home from work one night and then the next day, the car didnt want to start.

One thing that I noticed before the car stopped running was that the regulator in the alternator went bad so when the revs would get high enough, my headlights and interior lights would get so bright.

So I let it sit for a few months and all the car would do is just crank. I changed the battery and the spark plugs but not the alternator. Right now, the outcome is the same. The car still sits and just cranks.

Do you think the alternator wouldn't allow a car to start cause its bad? I know they keep the battery charged and if they fail then will cause the battery to die. But what about when the regulator when that fails?

If the battery has enough charge, the car can draw power directly from it- I've had my alternator die on me before (which killed my primary battery), and threw in a spare to get me home (mile or three).

usually if the alternator goes bad, it shoudlnt affect your start up... does the car just crank and not fire. or does it just click. I let my car sit for a long peroid of time, and when i went to start it it would just crank, so i ran some injector cleaner through it, and got some injector cleaner in a spray bottle and took off my intake hose to and sparyed it in there, to unclog the injectors, and it fired up. but that was prolly a different problem. Best of luck.
