Car is Overheating... Water pump maybe?!?!

My add coolant light keeps coming on (even though i have coolant) and that stupid annoying buzzer, and the temp goes way up. then i stop the car i hear a sort of bubbling coming from the hose that goes from the radiator to the water pump. Do you think the water pump isnt pumping any coolant? i have a 87 TII.

taken from the 2nd generation FAQ on the forum:

I think my engine has been overheated. How can I check to see if the coolant seals are good?
Fill coolant system ALL THE WAY UP (engine cold). Make sure that the fluid level is as high as you can get it. Leave the filler cap off. Remove the EGI fuse. Crank the motor (it should not start). If you get a LARGE amount of coolant coming out of the coolant fill, its safe to assume your coolant seals are blown. Also, a good indication is a fuel/exhaust smell in the coolant.

sadly to say it only takes one good overheat to blow the seals in the engine of a rotary, try removing the thermostat and testing it manually, you can also test to see if your cooling system is flowing ok by leaving the thermostat out temporarily and visually checking the flow but don't drive it without the thermostat.

Get some test strips at your local auto parts store, takes all of 5 seconds to check for bad coolant seal.

Traces of water under water pump? If not, hoses, and rad. If the is not leaking it, it's eating it.
