can't separate bellhousing from gearbox
 

hi, i need some help/tips with pulling apart my gearbox.

I have separated my 5spd gearbox from my 13b engine and now i want to get the bellhousing off of the rest of the gearbox. i thought it would be fairly simple to do but after i took all of the bolts out that were in sight i tried to separate the parts evenly with a hammer and two flat screw drivers but the gap only opens up to about 1cm then stops. I think it might be tight from the dowel pins so i made sure i forced it apart evenly but this doesn't help a lot. i also took the bolts out of the side of the gearbox, pulled the circlips off of the shafts and tried to get them out but that doesn't help either. is there a special technique to this? is anyone able to direct me to a place where this had been discussed and solved? thanks for reading. :scratch:

TII or FD gear box?

the FD iirc has a hidden bolt under the throwout fork.

if it's an old school tranny i have no clue, it should be straightforward.

yeah it's an old school first gen gearbox. i'll spend some more time on it tomorrow and i should hopefully be able to figure out what's going on in there. thanks anyway
