Cant get my swap going! HELP

Hey guys how's it going. I have an s5 fc and I'm TII swapping. I got the motor in and started for 5 seconds. Then when I was tucking my spark plug wires I arced the starter relay and blew a 30 amp fuses. No big deal I thought so replaced it. Now my fuel pump isn't working and I've been checking relays and all my fuses are good. Then I went out yesterday and it won't even turn over but is drawing all voltage. Headlights will come up almost half way then stop. Any help. Please. It's killing me
Thanks in advance

Do you have spark?

Graham7 07-20-15 09:26 AM

I'd test it but I can't get it to even turn. I'm gonna try again today

welcome to the board. :)

you mentioned the starter relay and a 30 amp fuse. you also said, you "replaced it", which i'm guessing referred to the fuse. have you checked the relay as well. if not, do so.

check the relay and the starter itself.

This might sound stupid, but you said your headlights come up half way and stop? Is your battery dead?

Graham7 07-20-15 03:37 PM

So my battery cable had slipped out of the clamp but I fixed that so now I my headlights and all are working. My stupidity. Sorry fellas. But the fuel pump is still not priming. The starter relay is good. It clicked closed and there was no resistance so that is good. The fuel pump is a walbro 255 and is only getting 6 volts.

Graham7 07-20-15 03:40 PM

So it turns over but no fuel. It all worked before I arced the starter relay and blew the fuse. So I'm kind of lost at what to do next. Replaced all interior fuse box fuses btw

FührerTüner 07-20-15 04:51 PM

jump 12v to your fuel pump and see if it pumps. check fuel pump relay

FührerTüner 07-20-15 04:55 PM

also check 15 amp engine fuse

I replaced that fuse and I just tested the relay and it works. Closes and I get no resistance but when I try to start or turn the key I don't hear it click. But if I pull this relay that's BESIDE the main relay my fuel pump will prime. It has a blue wire going to it from the starter relay. Any idea...?

did you check all of your under hood fuses? Check to see if you are getting power at the ignition switch

Yes I did check them. All good. and my car will turn over but won't start. Will that affect fuel pump tho?

IIRC, even with the factory fuel pump resistor/relay setup intact, more than 6v should be making it to the pump in a low load situation. It's a common preventative maintenance procedure to rewire the fuel pump anyway, eliminating voltage drops due to the old wiring and faulty resistor/relay after being nearly 30 years old. Are you familiar with this? There's several write ups on this and I believe one main thread with diagrams for you.

I have seen people do this. Are there any cons to doing this?

Graham7 07-21-15 09:36 AM

Link to it...?

That is one way to do it, however most (including myself) choose not to keep the resistor in the equation.

To answer your question, the only perceivable con would be that there is no longer low and high output states. This will slightly effect gas mileage and obviously tune, but let's be real, no one drives these cars for gas mileage :)

Amen to that. I'm not planning on anything good for gas mileage😂😂 I'll Deffinatley give it a shot. Thanks for everything I'll let you know how it goes!
