cant get my 1985 mazda rx7 running

i just bought an 1985 rx 7 gsl and from what i see it was set up to drag. slicks a lot of stuff torn out. but the car wont run. when i turn the key it does nothing. i have power cause the lights turn on and everything. the car has a fuel cell and it turns on and everything. i cant find the starter. my question is does neone know where the starter is? or how i can get this thing running?

welcome to the board.

for starters, i would check to make sure the battery is up to snuff. it is possible for the car to have lights and that the pumps will run, but not have enough juice to turn the starter.

second, follow the positive battery cable, it should lead you to the starter. failing that, it should be on the lower left hand side of the engine.

pics might help as well ... plus it will add to my collection. ;)

hmm ya me and my four buddies looked for the starter, is it noticable? or is it more like under the block cause we couldnt find nothing. but ya i will try and post some pics tomorrow morning. thankyou for your help so far.

the best view of the starter is probably going to be from underneath the car. it will be the cylindrical thing (about 4 inches diameter) on the driver's side of the tranny.

well how will i know if the motor is blown cause the kid i got it from said the kid he got it from said ti was blown. so he never touched it. we tried to pop start it and it sounded like it wanted to start.

a compression test is the simplest thing i can think of to know for sure. all of the "he said, she said"-stuff isn't worth a bucket of piss.

if i were you, i'd make sure the battery was good. check all connections. confirm fuel and spark. deflood the engine (as a precaution). make sure you have new cap, rotor and plugs. pour some Seafoam down the carbie and try to start it off the starter.

sounds good i know the fuel is good i can smell it thats not a problem. ill check the connections the cap and wires look new i know that. ill check the spark and see whats up with the starter and seem to me like if i have all that you said, she should start right up.ill get back to you tomorrow after a take a look.
