Can't find timing marks

I've tried to run a timing light on my engine, but can't seem to find the marks. I've painted them white to make them more visible, but still can't see them when under the light. Is it possible somebody set this engine up way advanced and it is still running. It seems to run fine, but I'd like to be sure that the timing is on so please help me out here.:wallbash:

You might need to re-stab the crank angle sensor.

With the car off turn the timing pulley till the leading mark is next to the little timing nub on the engine.

Make a mark on CAS and just below it so you can re-orient it back properly after taking it out.

Unplug the connector, unbolt the CAS and take it out. There will be a small ridge on the front of the CAS and a small hole on the geared section on the bottom .There will also be 2 hex bolts on there. don't use those. it's a small pencil lead sized mark that you want to align.

Line them up and gingerly put it back into the shaft while trying to minimize gear movement and lining it up with where you had it before (the line with the marker).

Try timing it again.

Also, this is in the haynes manual if you look for "timing" in the back.
