Can u rebuild a 13b Turbo with second hand apex seals?
 

Hi is it possible to rebuild with second hand parts. I have opened the engine and found the broken parts. 1 apex seal a few oil seals. If i replace those broken parts with second hand parts will u be able to rebuild and will it run good and compression be good?

Why..? If you have done the work to pull the motor use all brand new seals and gaskets. There is a guy around here who does it and his motors last months..My rebuilds last 120,000 plus..USE new and spec everything out..

there is almost no way to tell if the used parts are going to work. the only way to test it is to assemble the engine and install it in the car. seems like alot of work if it doesn't run. then you will have to remove it and disassemble it all over again. seems like it would be easier and safer to put some new seals and gaskets and make sure it is good to go. used rotors, housings and end plates can be used if inspected and checked for wear or warpage with good success.

I wouldn't just because apex seals seem to be one of the weak common links amongst rotary engines. But I did hear for people who have them, they can reuse ceramic apex seals with no drawbacks.

If they are with in specks you can. Stock seals are 2 pc and you would have to stack them on top of each other and measure them to see if they are in tolerance. Then you would have to check and see if they are flat or have they become warped. Next is the measurement to see if they fit in the rotor in tolerance or have they worn from rocking in the grove of the rotor. If all checks out you can use them again, but I would not because the one thing you can not check is how fatigued the metal is from hundreds of heat cycles. If you have ceramic apex seals you can use them over ong over again......just replace the springs.

If you have broken an apex seal, most likely the housing has a gouge in it unless you're been very lucky. If it has a gouge, that housing is trash. There is no sense in using used apex seals in a housing that it didn't come from. You'll have bad compression for one, and it will take a while to "seal" properly. Even when it does , compression won't be too good. If you have taken the engine apart for say as a bad O ring, you'll need to use new gasket set and O rings but the apex seal is re-usable *only* if you install it in the rotor it came off of. Mark the top of the rotor and install the apex seal the exact place it came off of. Everything else are gaskets and O rings which must be replaced.
Every part of the engine is vital. Make sure all measurements are within factory spec. Buy a micrometer.
