can i carburate a 86 13b motor

i want to bolt this motor in my first gen without having to wire fuel injection?...im guess im lost here!

Yes, I think Racing Beat offers an intake manifold that allows the use of an aftermarket carb. Like a Holley or Weber, but not sure which one.

does any one no what i have to do about a disributor

Dan H 12-03-04 08:22 PM

I think you are able to use one from a 12A engine but don't quote me on that. When you do the 13B swap in a 1st gen, you are going to need a 12A front cover and GSL-SE oil pan for sure anyways.

Carburating a 13B

Hi
I'm doing exactly the same thing but for an airboat (one of the things with the 6 foot prop for thrust like a plane) . There is a book from www. rotaryaviation. com that says the 12A ditributor idea is done all the time in planes. This guy actually used 3 motorcycle carbs due to engine compartment clearance probs. I want to use a weber 48 IDA . The manifolds for weberw are on e bay alot . ED

Easy and you would not believe the power that motor can put out in a first gen.
Are you gonna rebuild the motor or just swap it in?

Run a webber, but make sure you get athe carb according to your specs and future upgrades.

I am running an 86 motor in my REPU. As was said earlier you will need your 12a front cover and a GSL-se oil pan. You will not be able to just bolt up the stock carb to it. I am running the stock 13b lower intake manifold and an aftermarket upper manifold with a Weber 48DCO. Other options are complete manifolds for a Holley or a Weber IDA. There are also complete DCO manifolds but not that common for 13b motors. The distributor and ignition system is stock 83 12a rx7 stuff.

I'm messing around with a T2 that will go into a REPU (it currently has an '86 6 port engine). Same story as Tom except it's an Atkins Camden SC and a carb.

yeah ... just choose which carbie you want. these days it seems to be very easily done. i remember the days when the Dell'Orto was your only bolt-on option - everything else required some sort of modification. if i remember right, the 12A front cover posed a bolt alignment problem with the SE oil pan, but i guess you could always drill the holes yourself. the 12A distributor works fine. just make sure you research the recommended timing for the carburetor you choose.

i put a weber onmy 87 se, i didnt have to change the distrubuter, it worked fine, if you want pics i can mail em to you. They are too big to post on here

yeah my bro did it in his 86 gxl heres a pic

racing beat makes carb kits, so does atkins. I run a holley 600 on my s5 with a racing beat intake manifold. You can use the stock ignition but it will be less effective and more of a pain to get the car to idle properly. I switched over to the late 12a distributor and wired in a set msd block coils. runs great. the only thing I need now is a set 4-port housings and a sc.

God that looks so sweet... no EFI bullshit, no accessories, just that tiny little wankel. If it weren't for the gas mileage, I would have gone carbed :(

88t2romad 12-12-04 02:43 PM

nice setup, just like mine but i had the stock cas, and a side draft....downdraft.....whatever its called

Dan H 12-12-04 03:12 PM

Does anyone make an intake manifold that will fit an FC TII engine? Because I want to utilize the 4 port irons but will be using S5 NA internals.

diabolical1 12-12-04 03:43 PM

Mazdatrix has an IDA manifold for the 13B-T/REW bolt patterns, but that's the only one i know of.

Dan H 12-12-04 05:35 PM

Sweet! Thanks for the info!
