Can a 12a pass emissions after rat's nest removal?
Pretty much as the title states. My brother is going to be rebuilding his motor and cleaning things up in his FB. Is there any way we can remove the rat's nest and the car still pass a sniff test. That is the only emissions related tests they do here.

basically no, the 2 solenoids run the emissions equipment

I remember back in the early 90's I ran a set of headers and one of those mazdatrix cat converter combinations on my 85 s. Passed with flying colors. In cali I never would have passed the visual however, but the sniffer was no problem.

All it has to do is pass a sniff test. I am kinda thinking we might keep it anyway. Just clean it up really well so that it won't look so bad.

I've seen one pass with flying colors with no emissions solenoids. He changed the plugs right before he took it in and put a brand new cat on it.

the stock system is overly complicated anyways, a properly tuned carb and well running engine with good cat will pass just the same as a severely modified single turbo FD with a decent tune will pass a sniffer test.
most of the crap hooked up to the carb is semantics, to reduce emissions in marginal figures during decelaration.. |
