broken side seal

I have a 12a out of a 79 rx7 and I'm doing a rebuild on it. I ordered the 300 rebuild kit from Atkins and also apex seals from them separately. Unfortunately doesn't look like the kit comes with side seals, comes with side seal springs but thats it.
Is it important for me to replace them as well or not? And what if I broke on of them trying to remove it am I SOL? I really don't want to spend another 120$ on that lol

Don't want to hurt your feelings, but based on your post it doesn't sound like you're remotely qualified to rebuild a rotary engine.

Yes, you should replace all your side seals if you measure them outside of factory spec or if you break them.

If the sides seals don't have damage then you should be able to rotate them down a slot.

That is, each slot is a certain length denoted by a Japanese "kana" letter.

To get proper new engine side seal specs you can just move the longer seals down into the shorter slots and adjust their length to spec.

That way you only ever have to buy 1 or two side seals max on a rebuild (if they are still in good shape).

Not that you should be sweating it over $7.80 side seals...

Okay side seals are the metal strip on the side of the rotor correct? If so, where can I get them for 7$?

If you have 2 race results Mazda will sponsor you and you get discounted pricing (racer pricing) from Mazda Motorsports/Mazdaspeed.

Otherwise you can get them through a retail store like MazdaTrix for $10.53ea.
