Which BOV sounds the best?
I'm trying to decide on which blow-off valve I should get. I'm leaning towards the HKS SSQV because that and the Greddy Type S are the only ones I got to hear in person and I like HKS better.
Does anyone have sound clips of their BOV from different brands? Which one would you choose to buy for your car? Jay Kim |
a bypass valve

I have an older model HKS SSQV. I havn't installed it yet but I hope it sounds good.

blow off valves sound like shit
let the f**ker surge :D |
i think blitz

I just vent the stock valve to outside with a K&N 3/4 breather, sounds better than most I have heard and only set me back $30 to do it. ;)

Originally posted by capn yes when you let of the gas the turbo is still spinning thus still creating boost and that boost has to go somewhere if there was no blow off valve there would be a build up air in the IM and would damage something, thats why the BOV is there to let excess pressure escape and reduce and eliminate compressor surge. :) |

let the f**ker surge |
Originally posted by capn heh that too, i liked my version it sounds....more technical:D |
i also believe if you do not run a bov it will damage the turbo because of the shock hitting the compressor wheel i have seen a turbo shaft break from not running a bov for long periods of time on a ford 2.4 litre turbo in a ford xr4ti
|
they are there to stop damage. I think i read somewhere that it creates a turbo surges create a negative pressure after releasing the load from the turbo (releasing gas after spooling) the bov stops that completely or so i heard
fc3seeker - really good site, i didnt even know wat all the different types sounded like till you posted that. I had to guess by looking at the exit tip of the bov. lol btw my vote goes to Apexi dual chamber i like the swoosh sound way more that that annoying high pitch crap. forge sounds good too |
The BOV vents pressure when you let off the gas to prevent turbo surge- When the pressure difference tries to spin the turbo the wrong way.
|
huh I was told by many many people, including sellers of turbo's that the bov was there to stop the turbo from spooling too much and causing permanent damage to it and possibly your engine.
