boosting too much

i have s4 jdm 13bt in fc3s 10th ae..

i just bought it and..i didnt put any boost controller kind of stuff at all

but it was boosting over 1.3 bar and eventully ecu cut off the fuel.. i could feel

it was not going after 1.3 bar boost

and i added exhaust intake but it is still doing...

do you guys have any idea what the hell is going on ?

i mean with out boost controller it shoulnt boost more than .5 bar or something...

oh yeah.. my car runs rich as hell i mean i can smell the gas and that hurts my

eyes and make teary.. and wastes gas alot....

help me guys !~!!

Making the exhaust more free flowing will INCREASE the boost, what you need to do is (1) check to see if your w/g actuator is working and (2) if it is working have it ported or port it yourself. (3) Or you could upgrade to an s5 turbocharger or better... for they have bigger waste gates that lessens the chances of boost creep... boost creep is what you are experiencing. Remember a boost controller can only reduce boost to a point no lower than the waste gate opening will allow it to...

Could have a leaky or cracked wastegate actuator line. Lines could be connected incorrectly. Wastegate actuator diaphram could have cracked and be leaking internally.

I think the real question for you is to FCD or not FCD. Also you can solve your latter part of the problem by copping a pair of goggles.

R_PROWESS 12-03-06 04:53 PM

The real question to FCD or not to FCD? I don't think so. I mean not at that level... 1.3 bar is 18.855 PSI man. And on top of that N/A rotors. No, the pressure has to be lowered or you’re going to say goodbye to your engine prematurely. but ya goggles.. right on haha

I Had The Same Problem And I Blew The Motor. Please Stop Driving The Car, And Either Port The Wastegeate Or Gaet A S5 Turbo. Ive Had Nothing But Problems With Shops, Late Installs, All Of This Can Be Avoided If You Check The Problem Out.

K_style 12-03-06 06:59 PM

hold on.. i should have posted what i have in the car first..

35K bone stock JDM motor installed 3 months ago
S5 turbine with Garrett V trim compressor, ported housing and wastegate
thunderfabrications catless downpipe - 3" thermocoated
JDM Cosmo fuel pump
Racing beat Fuel cut defenser

that is what the guy who sold the car to me posted on forum

so this car has s5 turbo with ported.

and FCD but.. i dont understand

if i have FCD it should not cut the fuel isnt that right ?

adrock3217 12-03-06 08:44 PM

If you have an FCD, you shouldn't be hitting fuel cut, no.

Er, if the turbo is ported properly, you shouldn't be boosting above maybe 10psi (not even 1 bar, maybe .7 or so)

Boosting 1.3bar, your probably detonating, not hitting fuel cut. Fuel cut feels like you just hit a brick wall, and would happen long before even 1bar.

Detonation..is much more subtle.

Check if your wastegate is actually ported, and check the actuator arm.

it's amazing your apex seals haven't said goodbye yet.. it's not reccomended to run more then 8 psi on low comp rotors on the stock ect. I heared Steve Kan will refuse to tune cars with aftermarket computers if they want more then 12 psi on high compression rotors... (someone correct me if i'm wrong about the steve kan thing.. its just what I hear.) btw.. you could simply be running out of fuel pressure at the level on top of detonating and everything els..

13BT_RX3 12-04-06 11:19 AM

Overboost due to improper wastegate function is the real problem not fuel cut. Check the lines connecting to the wastegate. Make sure they are there, not cracked, not melted shut, not hardened and leaking, and not connected to a boost control device. Current fuel cut issue could be caused by hitting the flow limit of the injectors or the pump.

K_style 12-04-06 12:10 PM

my car is at the body shop and i will get it back tomorow

i will check the actuator when i get it back.

i think that is the only thing i can check right now.

RotaryEvolution 12-04-06 02:42 PM

talk about reverse engineering, freeing up the intake and exhaust flow will net more boost not bring it down to a more reasonable level...

K_style 12-06-06 05:34 AM

i just found out that..

specially when i drive freeway i can smell gas a lot when i let the gas go..

and... acuator is connected .. but turbo is making weird sound..

i though it was exhaust leak some where but i went to muffler shop to check it out

they told me there is no leak but turbo is making that noise..

it sounds like leaking exhaust .. and when i hear that noise carefully

it seems turbine is scratching or something...

i am ganna replace turbo asap to find out what the hell..

let me know if anyone has s5 turbo..

thanks guys

binary89 12-07-06 11:09 PM

hmm I would think that if the turbine was malfuntioning it wouldn't be overboosting. Its most likely something to do with you turbo control system. Its seems to be boosting way to high for just a back pressure issue. Do you hold WOT untill it reachs that boost pressure or does it just shootup there half way through the RPM range. If it only happens at WOT then try replacing the stock exhaust, if it just shoots up like there is no wastegate then try locating a problem with the wastegate control system.

K_style 12-08-06 01:05 PM

i changed spark plugs.. and it runs less rich...

and yesterday it only boosted about .7 bar..

and i found damage inside of turbo.. outlet trubine seems loose little bit..

it makes kind of wxhaust leak but it is not the exhaust.

turbine is hitting the housing..

so i better replace turbo asap.

pluto 12-08-06 04:46 PM

I can tune it for higher boost but not on pump gas. the problem is that at approx 12psi (on 91 octane), the car would start detonate no matter how rich I tune it to. I used to run the 9.4 rotors in my drag car at 28psi so tuning it is not a problem but just not worth tuning more on pump gas.
