Boost leaking on my '93

I am having trouble regarding boost.

Normally my boost runs 12 pounds. Now I am getting boost readings in the 6 psi range. I hear wooshing (escaping air) when turbos go on line. The primary and secondary stages exhibit the same symptoms so I doubt it is vacuum line related.

This appears to indicate a leak issue in the piping but I can't find the leak. No tears or splits are apparent. I have removed and examined all parts of the piping from the y pipe to throttle body. I am wondering if there is a trick to finding leaks in this system. Could my IC (stock) be leaking?

Since this was a sudden change (while driving a couple blocks it went from fine to blah) I tend to believe it should be a simple fix.

Please tell me what I should be looking at.

Thanks in advance
Jason

If you took apart everything from y-pipe to intercooler and never then indeed it could indeed be the intercooler leaking. The plastic endtanks on them sometimes separate from the core. I would pull it out of there and fill it with water and see if any leaks, I am sure there are better methods to finding IC leaks but I just haven't thought of them.

Thanks I will remove the IC and check it

You might have a leak from cracks on the exhaust side of your turbos or on the manifold. That is if you cannot find any cracks on the intake side.......

Question. Does that only happen when the car is warmed up? Or, does it happen all the time?

thanks for the replies, I found the culprit.

It was not the IC leaking, but the hose at the bottom inlet of the IC. It was cracked along the seam. after filling the Ic with water I decided to connect all the piping peices in a u shape pattern to see if any leaked.

The peice at the lower IC inlet leaked just above the 90 turn. I inspected further and found it was cracked along the seam

Thanks for the water idea. I had been trying to think of how to pressurize the hoses but just filling it showed the leak immediately.

now if I just had another hose!
