Blow off valve...
 

I told my mechanic (when I had one) that I notice the car wasn't giving me the same power/acceleration when the turbos kicked in. He said that my blow-off valve was releasing at 5-7lbs (guess they're supposed to be at 10lbs). Now why would that effect the turbo's boost? Doesn't the BOV only come into play when you are shifting? It's to prevent the pressure from surging back into the turbo's right? Anyone confirm what he said?

he meant its not holding the preasure. find someone with a good bov and install it see if it makes a diference. Look at the lines or mounting flange for cracks if the good bov doesnt feel any different. If thats not it then you problem might be something else.

A blowoff valve will release the pressure surge produced when the throttle plates close, such as shifting.

It's between the turbo & the throttle body - if it's leaking, or letting go early, it will be venting boost that should be getting into the engine.

The BOV is there so when you are making a lot of boost, then let off the gas pedal (to shift or just to slow down) the pressurized air trapped between the turbo and throttle plates can escape without building up and damaging something.

If your BOV is opening at too early of a pressure, your pressurized air isn't going down the engine intake, its getting dump overboard.

Thats because you were only boosting to 5psi instead of the normal 10.

Thanks for explanation. Now I guess there’s two of them, one near the air box, the other more towards the engine. From what I can figure out the one closest to the air box is the BOV? The other one is called the Charge Control Actuator? By the description that I’ve read…they sound like they do the same thing, but at different levels. I was told they are the exact same parts. Any truth to this?
