Blew my fd motor... what seals should i get now?
just blew a corner seal on the front rotor :(
sending the housing to be refinished.. the car is a street weekend driver making 500whp... take to the strip sometimes... i beat on it alot though. should i just go with oem? als? carbon fiber? what is the best but the safest ? |
There is no carbon fiber seals, you mean Carbon apex seals. I heard great thing about ALS, thats what im running now but I haven't made any power on them just yet.
|
als is supposed to be good i heard but from what i have been hearing usually a corner seal goes doesnt it? im on a street port btw ... so does it make sense to put the housing into more stress?
i may be wrong lol but this is what i have been told |
corner seals have nothing to do with the apex seals and they rarely fail short of an apex seal taking out the corner seal.
maybe you're talking about the apex seal boot, which also rarely fails. what usually fails is the sharp point at the end of the long apex seal. softer seals break this spot easier. and carbon is for non turbo use only. i believe you mean ceramic seals. |
as stated to have corner seal failure your rotors may be a hair out of spec, check all the parts and make sure they fall into the proper measurements. as for Apex seals i like Aviation seals they work great.
|
im sorry you guys are right i broje off the tip of the apex seal ! so what kind should i get...
street used at night... drag strip once in a while... but beat on alot lol |
RA, ALS and goopy seem to have some of the most durable seals.
there are others as well but pricier such as the ceramics from ianetti and pettit. |
Who is porting, building and tuning your engine?
The only time I've seen a broken corner seal was due to a (very) bad build due to very out of spec tolerances, among other things. What power levels are you making, and what kind of mileage are you putting on the car each year? Edit: I see you chipped an apex seal. Stock I suppose? The rest of my questions still stand :D |
jpr built it 5000 miles ago before i bought the car...
tuned at enzo racing... borgwarner s366 making 500... took the blown one to goopy and getting all there stuff put on |
Ive heard good things about Goopy so you should be good. I obviously prefer ALS as have seen nothing but great results with them on around 50 engines I have personally built. Im sure you are in good hands plus they resurface rotor housings which is a big plus.
