Bigger Engine

I realize that the rotary is sectional heres my question I have two 13b's is there any way to build them together to have a quadruple lobe engine i understand alot of fabrication would need to be done .

Kai 01-14-04 02:38 PM

That would be a psuedo R26B, and it has been done. You need a custom multi-peice eccentic shaft and manifolds to say the least.

whoa i didnt even know about something like this... thats some crazy stuff...

Digi7ech 01-14-04 02:50 PM

4 rotor or maybe 3 rotor. You'll probably need the 3 rotor intermediate plates.

Some people have estimated over 25k to build an engine like this.

I have only seen one 4 rotor and it was at Sevenstock 6 in a red FD.

Sorry to say this but if you have to ask then don't.
Also to help answer another Q.
A 3 rotor will got you 10k at the minimun to put into a FC.

Grannys speed shop did a motor like this, you should contact them, just search for "grannys speed shop" in google.

i remeber someone posting a vid of a white fd from japan with a 4-rotor it sounded badass. more power to you if you want to take it on as a project. just dont count on getting it in a car anytim soon and i hope you have engineering level design and fabrication skills. good luck tho it would be realy cool to see the approach to making one.

Have the two engines totally seperate, but join them together via a seperate shaft between the front plate, and the rear plate

It'll be huge, but you'll have your 4-rotor engine :D

Jeff20B 01-14-04 06:39 PM

A school bus or a boat would be good candidates for two 13Bs hooked together. :D

chairchild 01-15-04 05:54 PM

Or if you were to use a custom frame and shell to put them in, you could always use two engines, two gearbox's (with linked shafts) and have split diferentials at the rear - one engine powering each rear wheel

well, its different!!!

ScrapFC 01-15-04 06:03 PM

I think the 4-rotor FD you're talking about is from Scoot. I've still got the vid and it sounds like some mutant bike engine. :D The other one can be found here Granny's and includes an excellent tech writeup on how they did it/how to do your own.
Also, Blue TII recently posted a couple of threads on an Australian 4-rotor PP FC. Talk about badass!
Remember that a 4-rotor will be LONG and HEAVY! You won't fit that in any RX7 engine bay without EXTENSIVE modifications.

Let's figure out an easy way to build a FWD rotary. Put one 13B up front, and one 13B in the rear hatch of a small FWD car. Link both shifters, clutch cylinders/cables and throttle cables together. Viola! AWD 4 rotor powered econo box. :D

chairchild 01-17-04 08:43 PM

or get the entire drivetrain from a 4WD car, and lob a rotary engine on it

You won't fit that in any RX7 engine bay without EXTENSIVE modifications.
Remove the radiator, and cut a hole into the bonnet slightly smaller then the radiator. Fit the radiator into the bonnet. That'll give you plenty of room :)

dam... a 3 rotary engine's good enough for me. but if u have the money, then by all means go for it.

chairchild 01-18-04 05:40 PM

I'd love to make a 4-rotor like Granny's. It'd look sweet in the back of my trike!!!

Scoot 4-Rotor FD (pictures, specs, videos)

Here's another site that's around, but pretty slow progress and not much to see.
www.4rotor.com

Jim Downing has been doing 4 rotors for years I think.

Jeff Bruce (new zealand, or is it australia?) makes custom eccentric shafts. He makes the shafts for many top drag racers. A 2 or 3pc shaft is another option.

That's all the info I got.

sorry all have been away for a while thanks for the help I have a friend at a machine shop that is going to help me but i still need to figure out how to fit this beast into my car

any ideas on that one

(p.s. like the four wheel drive idea!)

Jeff20B 03-19-04 02:00 PM

The AWD idea? Me too. :D

totallimmortal 03-25-04 09:03 AM

good luck, I hope your machine shop guy gan make a good strong e shaft for it that should be the biggest problem
