any good mechanics in SA?
 

Recently took my car to a shop here in san antonio because it was cranking but not starting, so the guy said it was flooded and there was no spark. He replaced the spark plugs. Yesterday my car wouldn't start again and after waiting for about an hour I got it to start again and I drove it to my mechanic. Today he says to me that he isn't too familiar with rotary engines so he doesn't want to dig in. I just need to get my car fixed..does anybody know of any mechanics that are knowledgable in rotary engines? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

i'd asked him why he didn't say that the first time and a refund since his diagnosis was incorrect.

hey man there is a few shops but u have to look around but brian over at bdcmotorsports is a good guy hes in dallas, nows his shit give him a call or look him up here, hes a member, i towed my car from new mexico so he can work on mine he came highly recommeneded by ppl i kno in new york. give him a shot.

Josh isn't doing any work at the moment as far as I know but he might be able to take a look at it, I'm not sure.

Problem being that most of the RX-7 owners especially here in San Antonio simply work on their own cars for the fact that their aren't any "Rotary Mechanics" here in San Antonio anymore. Now there are people who will give you a hand but there really isn't anyone you can take your car to and drop it off.

I think your best bet might be to take your concern to the 2nd gen forum in one topic, post up everything you know about the car, all your concerns and symptoms and see what they have to say, I know hard starts and a hunting idle seem to be common problems but what fixes them I'm not sure.

I'm not sure how I can put this that won't put me in to a shitty spotlight, but I do work at the shop in question and I'm really really really sorry that they couldn't figure it out, I'm just starting as a basic tech doing little things here and there and while I can help guide the other techs as far as basic things to look for in a rotary, I'm not an expert in FC stuff. I'm seriously sorry about it and I tried to do whatever was within my power but unfortunately it wasn't a whole lot. I wanted to get a chance to talk to you when you were picking up the car one of the days but I always seemed to miss you so I really apologize for that, it's frustrating for me to see the car needing to be fixed but being able to do so little.

I can try to see if Josh will take a look at the car or possibly 2 other people but I'm not sure. If you do need any help or need an extra pair of eyes to look over the car since I rarely got a chance please let me know and I'll try to do what I can.

he got the car running and didn't know that it had further issues, that's not his fault or reason to crucify him. i doubt he claimed to be a rotary expert or he wouldn't have told him to find one after the issue arose again.

i would guess that the engine has low compression which is why it is flooding.

I figure that my mechanics did what they could with my car. Today I bought a compression gauge and intake cleaner to clean the BAC valve. I have my car stored up for now and it may take me a few days to look at it again since I am depending on rides from my friends. I would appreciate any help, including talking me through this. I read and read the Haynes manual, but that can only take me so far. I figure the best way to learn about my car is by getting in there.

For all technical stuff I would refer to a Factory Service Manual, Haynes manuals are....terrible. I would also make a trip to Half Price Books and see if they have a Chilton Manual for yours, they often include ALL import cars from like 1986-1990 or such but they are also very helpful, managed to find one for about $12.

+1 on the hands on, learned more about my GSL-SE in the first week then I did in a month worth of reading before hand.

Thanks so much! Now I was gonna ask, is there a certain intake cleaner I should buy specifically for my car since the one I bought says in the directions not to use on rotary engines.
