For all considering doing the atf trick

As you know, you are going to smoke your neighborhood out if done during daylight (I tell the neighbors the steam engine is coming back in style). I started by putting an old set of plugs in, removing the plug wires to prevent any arcing, squirted some ATF in each leading plug hole, spun the motor, and repeated for about 4 or 5 times.
I let the motor sit overnight for only 10 hours as opposed to the recommended 24, put the plug wires back on and cranked it. Started right up and smoked out the neighborhood for 10-15 minutes. Drove it around the block redlining a few times, then came back, changed the plugs, and went to work. On the way there the car felt much more responsive and pulled a bit harder than before.
Now just two days ago I changed my oil (has no impact on the effect the ATF treatment has ) and I did use Mobil 1 15w 50. I then drove the car close to NYC 5 hours away to look at a 93 R1. The car performed so well on the trip it was incredible! Pulls so hard at highway speeds now and I also got a record 400 miles to the tank doing between 90 and 110 following a 3kGT!
Once I finally got back (the R1 is mint BTW, the TII is up for sale now to help pay for it) I noticed my vacuum at idle is at an all time high of 17 and thats with a slight leak at the upper/lower intake gasket. Basically, whether or not you use synthetic, i'd definitely recommend the treatment followed up by a few hour drive along your favorite highway to clean out your aging rotary :)

atf trick

I am going to be doing the atf trick this weekend, does it really smoke that bad, how much should I put in, can I put it in the leading and trailing? how do I get it on my 6 ports to clean them out? :blue:

How badly does it smoke? Well I thought the smoke was gonna be horrendous by everybody's descriptions of it. But it wasn't THAT bad...I still would definently not do it in a residential neighborhood, unless its late a night or something maybe. I used WAY more tha ATF than was probably needed, almost 1/2 a quart. I once made more smoke unflooding my engine. The first 1 minute or two is pretty bad, don't stand downwind. After that, it will smoke for at least 5-10 minutes but not as badly.

does the atf trick work for 1st gens only?

ATF trick works for all rotary engines.
The smoke is pretty thick, I've heard stories of the fire department showing up. But I've never had it smoke that much.
For your auxilary ports, your best bet is to just remove the acuators and exercise them by hand, spray a little lubricant on them, and put them back in. If you really want to go all out you can remove your intake manifold and lubricate the sleeves and such, however, this is alot of work and you will need new gaskets.
