Airpump problems
 
Ok so me and my friend were seating around doing nothing, looking at a rotary performance book written by racing beat and a few old and new racers that run rx7's. I read where it said if you remove the cat and or aftermarket filter, the airpump is just wasted weight, etc. Well I continue reading and it said that

"There is no special way to go about removing it or adding anything to replace it for that matter. Just pull it out and be done with it."

So I did WITHOUT using a dual pulley setup like I knew I needed too. It's been 2 days now after taking it out, first the hose that hooked to the airpump toward the lower manifold was blocked of by a filter to see if I could induct more back backpreasure or something, blah blah yada yada I was drunk, next day I opened my hood seen it and was like "wtf" and went and bought a heater hose cap for it.

What I been noticing..
Pros:
1.sounds smoother in high rpm.
2.shifts sound smoother when deacceling and reacceling.
Cons:
1.NO BACKFIRE OR FLAMES!!!! There's no more backfire even if I slam it to redline and let off as fast as i can. There's like alittle poof that's it.
2.hard idle, idles about 500 higher and has a poping noise coming from the exhaust.
3.scared of water pump messing some stuff bad. Have no money to fix it with dual pulley setup until Friday. <- I'm poor
4.I lost the spacer for the airpump in the removal, because it was night and I was alittle handicap.

I feel weird without a backfire...
Any thoughts on why it's not doing ever since I removed the airpump?
Also, why it's making a popping noise from the exhaust at idle?

That isn't true about NA S5s. If you take off the pump you lose about 25 HP on the top end (you WILL be able to feel the difference).

You need the air pump and ACV, and solenoids, unless you rig up an electric actuation system for the ports.

That's what I thought, Doesn't the S5 use the airpump to open the 5/6 ports as well? Anyway the book said 86-92, so I was like I guess i'm wrong *disconnect* :/

I felt the difference when I had the hose filtered, but not when it was blocked off. All though when I took off the stock exhaust and put on a custom full exhaust(minus headers) I felt nothing different.. just lauder. So, meh..

Ok so here's another question. If I went to a cone filter, the airpump as a hose that goes from it to itself then to the air control valve ports. So if the hose that was connected to the stock filter box is removed will the 5/6 ports still open? Or does the airpump just need to turn with the belt to open the ports, i'm confused.
