Air Pipe question(CAT. Convertor)

hey y'all i need to replace my CAT. on my exhaust!! My question is: CAN the air pipe goin' into the CAT. be disconnected and will it effect the way the car runs(if i disconnect it and put an aftermarket CAT. on)?

any suggestions on what kinda CAT. i can get?

You have to have that air pipe for your cat to work correctly. IF you remove it your cat will die a premature death and you probably will not pass emissions.

thanx Cosmo, but i was talkin about puttin' like a free flow cat.(Toucan or a Racing beat presilencer on) The emissoin test doesnt matter cos i know the guy that inspects my car(just checks lights, horn, ect.) it never leaves the ground!! I really just wanted to see if i can run the airpipe disconnected!! thanx again Cos!!

Nice car by the way Cos!!

if you still have the stock lower intake manifold and you have the sleeves in there... you might want a cat there for the back pressure... to operate the sleeve open... a high flow cat will do, but you want the air pipe there for that because that's where your actuators get the pressure from...

Yah, what he said. There are posts out there about having the 6-ports being electronically actuated or just using the ACV to open them via the air pump I think but I don't know much about that stuff.

Thanks.

hey donk..!!! how did you get a QUEER for a STATUS....???

back to the subject... you could open the sleeve with the AIR PUMP... but its gonna be open all the time... unless you get a device that stores pressure and release at certain rpm...(that's expensive)

I guess they just don't like me:) Actually you can change it to anything you want in the User Control Panel.

I can't remember what they did with the air pump but I thought they had some kind of pressure valve or something goofy. I am sure you can find some way to fix it out there.
