93 touring running rich after cable fix

My 93 touring with 25k miles was idling poorly and discovered the cruise control cable was hanging up the throttle control. Problem fixed and now it runs rich with intermittent surging with thick smoke from the exhaust.

I have the Apexi PowerFC and wondered if this was something that could be fixed within the settings of ecu. If so, could someone please help me?

If that's not the issue and you think you might know what is, please offer me your help. I'm trying to sell and cannot in good concience do so without fixing this first.

Thank you.

Hopefully this takes you to the video. Not working. I can email you the video if it helps. Thanks again.

Am I not giving the right amount of info? Or is it as puzzling to you guys as it is me?

Let me know if you need more from me.

Thanks.

I will read it right now. The car was tuned by Mark I think near Columbus, Oh, Dublin if I can recall. It was like 10 years ago.

Thank you. I'll let you know if I'm able to remedy the situation.

If you can post what lead up to the original issue, that would help (i.e. where you doing any work on the car and messed up the cruise control cable?). Providing as much background information between when the car was running perfectly fine and how it's running now will definitely help.

The vehicle hadn't been driven for more than 6 years, just sitting covered in the garage.

I am getting ready to sell it and wanted to correct an idle issue. The vechicle was almost stalling, then the ecu would bump it up to keep it running. My mechanic took it for a spin and said it ran great other than that.

we disconnected the intake and intake manifold. They looked there, everything was fine. While playing with the throttle, they noticed the cruise cable was hanging up the throttle from closing all the way. They fixed that by turning it once and reconnecting it(cruise cable). The car then idled perfectly and when we closed it back up(intake) there was an exhaust leak and it was running rich.

He had to go thinking the leak was at the wastegateafter a quick visual assessment. I removed the shields surrounding the wastegates and I tried moving them manually and they seemed closed with tight springs. It looked like a screw was missing in the front of the wastegate so I closed that up and no exhaust leak.

The persisting problem is now the richness. The garage fills immediately with thick dark exhuast and although the idle is fine, things don't sound right and it's rich. I have had infinitel difficulty getting anyone to come over to help me.

I am not an idiot, but know nothing about fixing cars, especially this one.

If I plugged something I shouldn't have, let me know. I'll try to take a picture now. Not sure if a camera will get in there. Be back shortly. Thanks.

Ok. It could just be some idle programming which needs to be adjusted in which that link above will help. However, with that much unknown of the car, who knows. If you run into problems, you might consider getting your car to these guys:

IRPerformance | 55 Prospect Street, Metuchen, NJ 08840 Tel. (732) 662-1794

They can definitely knock any issues with the car.

It's the screw in the background to the left under the "A" behind the larger one.

I plugged that, was that right?

P.S. Tried to start the car, didn't start this time.

Thanks again.

The person buying the vehicle said he's going to do some upgrades anyway, so would you advise a reset and learning of the ecu? We're going to ship it to RX7Store and have them do the mods and retune.

Thanks again.

If the person is buying it "as is", I would just leave it alone.

Thanks. I'll take you up on that.
