87 RX7 GS not idling

Hey guys
Thanks for the add!
I'm trying to help a neighbor in distress by buying a 87 RX7 GS automatic with 75000 miles on it. It has been sitting for 3 years and now it won't idle. It is carburated and I'm expecting he put ethanol in it. If so I'm headed in that direction but I was wondering if there might be any other inherent issues. I am not a rotary mechanic but I remember back in the days there were some seals that caused a lot of problems. It's a clean car underhood and body and Interior looks almost new. He's asking 2500 for it. I'm going to crank it tomorrow to look for smoke and check for vacuum leaks. All the hoses I checked look new though.
Thanks for any help you can be!!

Well, first iff, its an 87, and it has a carb, that right there is NOT factory, and who knows what else is wrong/right under the hood if its been sitting 3 years, its anazing it runs, it needs the fuel system flushed, and carb rebuilt before you can even start diagnosing it correctly. If you contemplating buying it, just my opinion, 2500 is a rip, you can buy a perfectly running stock 7 for that cost

Thanks I duly
The man "on oxygen" said it had a carb. I didn't pull the air cleaner yet so it could be FI. It looked stock and all the searches I did last night didn't say anything about which it had. I'm hearing the veins and seals might be a problem with it sitting that long. I didn't get a chance to look at it today.
Thanks so much

plenty of concerns here.

You are helping a guy buy a car that you know nothing about yourself and have no knowledge of it's mechanical operation or condition. This raises the question of exactly HOW you are helping him of you are not sure of what you are looking at.
It's a Damn Automatic which to any Rx7 guy is a Piece of shit if you intend in even attempting to "give it some aggressive driving".
Porridge can go faster than an automatic!

$2500 for a car that hasn't run in 3 years?..NO...
You'd be spending at least that to get it going again.

Personally IF anything goes wrong..your Neighbour will blame YOU..(So I'd tell him to buy his own damn car and leave you out of it.)

I would stay away from it, there are plenty more out there. Good luck!
