84 rx7 fb wiring issue
 
Hello all.. I've stumbled myself into a weird wiring problem I can't quite figure out myself and was wondering if someone might have an idea. I've searched and haven't found anything with this issue.

On my 84 rx7 GSLSE whenever the multifunction switch for the headlights is turned to accessory the stop lamp light comes on, the other issue that goes with this is when the brakes are applied all the running lights come on for the interior and exterior and the stop lamp illuminates too. All this happened after I replaced a blown brake light bulb and these symptoms developed overtime. Also just a few days ago the headlights decided they only want to work on high. I was told it could be a grounding issue but I believe I checked every ground I've checked plugs and am pretty lost at this point. All the fuses are also good. Any help is appreciated greatly!

You have a single element bulb installed in one of the taillights, instead of a double element. (Like an 1156 where an 1157 should be) The bulb is connecting the brake and parking light circuits, so when you turn one on, power goes to both.

The headlight issue is probably just dirty contacts in the turn signal switch. It can be disassembled and all of the contacts cleaned up. This needs to be done on a semi regular basis.

Actually, I probably should do a how-to on this since my high beams have not worked for a few years now.

i did replace that bulb and it got rid of the stop lamp coming on when hitting the brakes but the dash lights still illuminate when they are pressed sometimes the gauge cluster the clock light is everytime I push the brake. I need a new multifunction switch as the turn signal stalk is destroyed from the p/o so it might be causing problems

Hmm. The multifunction switch info is relevant, but still...

Take the brake light bulbs out and see if it still illuminates the cluster and parking lights. EVERY time I have seen this issue, which is incredibly common, it is because someone installed a single element bulb where a dual element bulb belongs. Single element bulbs have one contact in the center, dual element have two contacts off to the side, so putting a single element bulb in will connect the two circuits.
