3rd gen will not start
 

After setting only 3 weeks, my 3rd gen will not start.
1) Yes I have fuel.
2) I checked and replaced the fuel pump fuse.
I do not smell fuel even after I attempt a start for 10 seconds with full throttle.

Obviously I am not a mechanic, but are there any simple tasks that I can attempt before having it hauled to the shop.

Just removed a spark plug after letting the engine turnover for about 5 seconds.
It was completly dry.

I have since confirmed that I have spark to the plugs.
I have confirmed that it is not flooded.
A)Removed EGI turned engine for 30 seconds
re-installed the EGI turned engine,will not start.
B)Removed plugs, removed EGI, turned engine for 5 seconds, no fuel came out of the engine.

I am now looking into the fuel system.
A) Jumpered, on the diagnosis connector, the F/P and GND with a wire, with the ignition switch on I did not hear the fuel pump,tomorow I will get a volt/ohm meter and measure the voltage supplied to the fuelpump.

Are you getting a engine check light?

No engine check light.

I found the "Circuit Opening Relay"
had malfunctioned, showed continuity with or without voltage applied.
After prying the contacts apart, I confirmed the relay now works properly, continuity only when voltage applied.
Re-installed it in the car and confirmed voltage is now getting to the fuel pump conector just before the fuel pump.
The pump does not work, even when I apply voltage directly to it.

I need a Fuel Pump.

I suspect the failure of the fuel pump to be relate to the failure of the relay.

Tonys, just to make sure that it IS fuel related.. remove the intake elbow and have someone crank it, while cranking spray some carb spray into the intake, it should fire for a sec. and yes it will run on carb spray for a few seconds and be fine. This will tell you YES indeed it is a fuel supply problem. Seems as though you may have found the problem, hopefully this hepls someone in the future.

Thanks, I had confirmed (for me anyway) that it was the fuel pump, by applying voltage directly to the fuel pump connector and hearing no sound from the pump.

Anyway, the pump was replaced, I priming the fuel system, the car started.
As an added bonus, the loss of power at the top end, which had been diagnosed as possibly a turbo problem, is not a problem any longer.
