3rd gen: how to remove water plug in rear housing?

I'm rebuilding my 13b-rew with new irons and I need to transfer the water plug from my old to the new iron (plug sits below the oil thermostat/oil pedestrial on the rear iron)

How do I get it out? Any tips?

anyone?

up

IIRC, it's just pressed in.

OK so it's just a mater of prying it out and plugging it back into the new iron?

up again... anybody?

It is just pressed in, tap it out gently. To install to the new housing freeze it and then tap it in.

thanks.. hearing different things though. One says it can come out and be reused, others tell me the new iron should have come with it and it's best to get a new one.

Though my Mazda parts catalog doesn't list this part as a separate part number... umpff

What do you stand to lose by trying to remove the plug from a busted iron?

Speedworks 09-04-07 03:13 AM

it's a used one, not busted...

He's talking about the rear iron coolant pipe (the one which has the 'so called' plastic quick disconnect on it) just under the oil filter pedestal. He's wanting to move it to a new/different iron, not try to block it off. ;)

According to Mazdatrix it shoul d come with the iron. Removing it from an old to new iron doesn't make much sense to them as it will most certainly break.

My 2 other rear irons are in good shape so I prefer to just get a new plug for the new iron.

I think my best shot is to go to the local central heating store and get myself the right diameter of tubing and epoxy it in the hole
