3mm GSL-SE Apex Seals

I have heard that the 84-85 American Spec GSL-SE has 3mm apex seals. Is this true?

If so, if I had my rotors milled to accept 3mm seals, would GSL-SE apexes be a worthwhile upgrade for a T2? I have a bunch of young engines that I would love to turn into a frankenstien engine for my T2.

I have also heard the steel side housings from the 12A is better at holding power than the aluminum housings from a 13B and that they can work together. Anyone have any experience with this?

yeas the SE's have 2 piece 3mm seals, I can't see why they wont work. The 12A and 13B both have steel side housings, the rotor housings are what's aluminum. Any combination of housings to '85 will work together.

what are you hoping to accomplish by modifying the rotors to accept the 3 mm apex seals?

and, yes, as rxtasy3 correctly stated, the side housing for all engines are steel (i believe the only difference is that some are nitrided, though i think all NEW housings are nitrided now) but the it is the rotor housings that are aluminum. also, the engines up to 1985 are compatible as far as housing swaps are concerned, but the 1986 and up engines are not able to accept those housings.
