2nd gen na timing question

Hi i need alittle help, I have a good used na motor with good compression i put in my 89 S5. I installed rebuilt injectors, checked the 6 port acuators and they move freely. She starts right up and idles ok but when you punch it bogs and looses power, you can rev it slowly and she will climb about 5 or 6 grand before she breaks up. I know it sounds like the 6ports but i think it is timing. I put a timing light on L1 and set the pin on yellow, then the hanes manual says go to T1 and you should have the pin on red but mine stays on yellow. it gives no remedy or cause if it does not goe to red. Is this my problem? i also did an electrical test on the coils and dist lead all seem normal. Any suggestions?

Sounds like OMP limp mode.

I had time to read the codes this morning . I got 8 shorts, then long pause and one long and two shorts, i read that as 8. AFM, CRIPPLE MODE AND 12. TPS

I checked for loose wires and did not find anything unusual , i will try starter fluid to check for leaks next. I probably have another AFM AND TPS laying around and will swap them out when i have time. anyother suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Was just gonna say check TPS

Use a multimeter, ground black wire to alt or wherver, stab red wire into TPS harness Green / Red wire (or Red / Green cant remember). Should be 1volt ish @ idle and raise to 5 volt as the TPS extends fully.

You can do this with key on engine off but motor supposed to be warmed up fully.

This sounds exactly like the thread I just posted in the 2nd Gen section and fixed it last night, was a bad TPS connector and Dizzy was stabbed wrong but I knew the Dizzy was wrong because I had to give it gas to start and it would kickback right before firing up.

Hope that helps

Also with the key on engine off unplug the TPS, wait about 5 seconds, plug back in slowly, you should hear a slight click noise from the TPS.
