Recently traded my corolla for a 1990 FC vert with an n/a, rebuilt (8k miles) 13b, I did some very minor work to it (coolant flush, oil change, seat replacement) before deciding to take it out to a local drift event and slide for a weekend. Things went great until the last run of the weekend when I got a little carried away and overheated the engine. Coolant boiling over, and spewing from the rad cap. I let it sit for about an hour, filled it with coolant again, it started right up, idled fine, drove across the event grounds perfectly fine, loaded it on the trailer, got it home....crank/no start. This was about a month ago; ive tried starting it a few times and decided it was time to look into a rebuild....got bored and curious today, grabbed the key; and went to see what would happen......it started first try. No smoke. No funky noises or obvious changes. Until I gave it some gas...sputters like crazy and very slightly tries to die at around 2k rpms just loses a significant amount of power as soon as it hits 2k, immediately after 2k, the car is back to full normal operating behiavor. My first thought is spark plugs, and a good tune up. I’m hopeful that I may not need to go through the expensive process of rebuilding the engine now. I’ve included a video of today’s events. Thoughts? Is there any way in the world I somehow overheated my engine to the max and avoided major failure?
