2400 RPM Idle??
 
I need help...just to start off, I am not new to this rotary engine thing.....i just havent had the chance to address this problem.

1988 Mazda RX-7, automatic, K & N intake, RB header, Bonez hi-flo, Apex'i Dual N1. it's white if that helps....lol

In neutral or park it idles between 2100 and 2600 RPM....in gear it idles at 1200 to 1000 RPM.

I pulled off the BAC valve, cleaned it out with carb medic, it's not sticking. i have slack in the throttle cable and none of the throttle blades are bent. i tried adjusting the idle, it only goes higher.

I havent checked any sensors yet (it would help if it had OBD like my Sunbird)...i dont have a DVOM.......

Any suggestions on common problems or the first thing to check or anything like that? HELP!!!

Do a TPS adjustment. It's super easy; just search for "TPS Adjustment" or something similar for the procedure.

It really sounds like you've got a sticky AWS (Acccelerated Warmup Solenoid). It's located just under the BACV. Disconnect it and see if the idle drops. If it doesn't, then plug it off with your hands (both the metal feed tube and the AWS) and see if your idle drops. If that doesn't do anything, look for vacuum leaks. The easy way to do this is to spray starting fluid on all the vacuum hoses, but don't blame me if you light anything on fire. Personally, I'd just replace every hose on the car since they're all (usually) old and brittle.

It could also be the throttle-body thermowax. It may be stuck; it's located on the backside of the TB next to the firewall. Checking all the sensors is a VERY good idea, since a bad temperature sensor can do the same thing.
