1990 RX-7 turbo II will not start COULD HAVE BEEN SABOTAGED

ok I have a car sitting in my driveway

It sat outside during the winter. It started after the winter was over ONCE! I only went out to start it to see if it would start. Then I went out a week later and it did not start. I tryed to jump it, motor makes a low weezing sound when turning over and didn't start.

***Should I attempt a tune up, or just have it towed to a shop for a dygnastic?***

Someone may have come over and messed with the car. I think this because it started, then a week later it made a weezing sound. WHAT SHOULD I DO!
thanx

it was me - NA all the way!:D

j/k

how long did you let the battery charge before you attempted to start it? if you didn't let it charge long enough, then it won't start, only drain the battery more.

rx7racer14 03-25-04 06:34 PM

we let it go for a good 5 minutes and we know it was not the battery because before I jumped it I made sure the headlights came up and down and they didn't dim and also the stereo turns on fine

this is what I think it could be

flooded it
spark plugs
spark plug wires
distributor

anyone agree with any of these

ALSO when trying to start the car the oxy sensor went out but I know there is air going to the motor cause the intake is going in

Project84 03-25-04 06:53 PM

what do you mean the oxygen sensor went out? It can't just fall out of the exhaust. Are you talking about the air flow meter under the hood? If something is wrong with that, the car won't start cause the senor attached to the flapper door needs to send a signal to the fuel pump telling it that there is intake air flowing through.

I would check the battery voltage with a multimeter or put it on a real charger, not just using another car to jump start it. Battery could be dead. I've seen it plenty of times where the car starts find once, then the next time you go to start, it the battery is dead.

How long did you let it run for when you started it last? What year is the car? Some of the 86-88 cars had a problem with the ECU when people start the car and then shut it off immediately, the ECU doesn't reset so when you go to start it again, its sending the wrong amount of fuel

rx7racer14 03-25-04 07:14 PM

ok it is not really my car it is just my neighbors but he knows a little more about cars (apparently not by the way he is working on it but hey he is 22) anyways he started the car and he came out and said the oxy sensor is out

we only let it run for about a min but now I am finding that we should have let it run longer

it is a 1990 rx-7

yeah it just sits there but for some reason it just seems weird that it started one week then the next it didnt
and there was only sunshine in the week interval so it wasn't like the water froze up

The O2 sensor (the oxygen sensor in the exhaust that tells the ECU if the air/fuel ratio is correct) does not affect starting or idling. It only functions when you are cruising at steady speed, light load condition, like cruising down the highway. The ECU will look to the O2 sensor to establish a more economical a/f ratio. It will sample the exhaust gas and lean out the mixture some, to save fuel. It is not a critical function. Find out if he means the O2 sensor or the AFM (air flow meter).

Letting the engine run for a minute should be long enough as far as the ECU realizing that the car was shut off, but I don't know. Have him hold the gas pedal to the floor, and while he is holding it, crank the engine (it will not start while holding the pedal to the floor because this disables the injectors) for 10 seconds. This will let the rotors push the excess fuel out if it is flooded from injecting too much fuel. Release the pedal, then try and start it. If it starts, send my $20 :)

Its broken send me the title and I will fix it :)

Ok No more jokes. I think you have a dead battery and a flooded car. First things is the battery. Get a know working or new battery and take the plugs out, crank for a few seconds with about a table spoon of atf in the spark plug holes . Put new plugs in and start her up. (watch out for the smoke) BTW u got gas in there right?

rx7racer14 04-13-04 08:16 PM

yeah we got gas

btw what are you talking about atf ( I am kinda low on automotive standards and talk) thanks for your help

Project84 04-13-04 08:37 PM

atf is automatic transmission fluid. It will help the seals form better compression in the engine, which can help the engine start.

rx7racer14 04-15-04 02:32 PM

yes but the rx-7 is a stick or is atf just the name if it is just the name you can proceed to laugh

also for the atf you said a tablespoon of the stuff in the spark plug hole is it just 1 tablespoon between them all or 1 tablespoon each
