1989 rx7 gtu smoking alot. And temp gauge not working

Ok so I just bought this 1989 rx7 gtu. It sat for 9 years and now I got it running. But after starting it smokes white smoke. Any suggestions? And my temperature gauge Doesn't work so I don't know if it's overheating or not.

White smoke is usually a bad coolant seal..and that is REBUILD territory.
The coolant gauge is one wire..yellow/red I believe and has a bullet type connector on it.
The sensor is located on the driver's side of the engine in the middle iron.
It is pencil like.
If you look in front of the "bell shaped Thing( which is the oil pressure sensor) you should be able to feel the Small coolant sensor (about the size of 2/3 of your pinky) screwed into the side of the engine.
If that has a wire off then that is why your gauge doesn't work.

Ok thanks for the info. I will check for the wires. Somebody told me white smoke could also be caused by the car overheating

Well if it is overheating then there is something wrong which can be low coolant, bad thermostat, bad rad cap or even a bad engine(coolant seal)
You need to figure out if the car is overheating and that can be done by eye, easily by starting it and running the engine with the rad cap off.
IF it shoots coolant out of your rad then your engine is toast.
If the coolant is leaking onto exhaust then that would create white smoke too..BUT as I said you need to do the leg work.
