I started having problems with my 88 GXL, non turbo, a couple years ago not turning over while attempting to start. I will release the clutch, engage the clutch, and try again. I sometimes I have to go thru this procedure 4 or 5 times before it will turnover. What is going on!

first of all ... welcome!

just for clarity ... are you saying that it will not turn over at all when you turn the key or it turns but just doesn't light off?

if it's not turning at all, check your power connections at the battery and starter (both hot and ground). check the switch under the clutch pedal for good contact.

if it turns and is hard to start, then start by telling us when was your last tuneup? it may be something simple (old, busted wires, etc.)
