13B N/A Rebuilding

Newbie Question # 1

Hey Im looking at an RX-7 Gen 2 for my first car, and it will be a project car. My dad objected specifically to the RX-7 cause its rotary, and he has no idea how to rebuild that. Ive heard its easier to rebuild but im not sure thats true. Can anyone tell me (step by steb, i knw it might take a while) how to rebuild it and/or show me a place on the net on how to do it. I've seen a couple of videos on how to do it.

BTW i just have reliability ?s on the drivetrain (specifically 5sp trans and the diff)

Whats it good for (hp wise) and what do I have to look out for? Since this is a used 87 should i be worried about putting a new tranny in soon after i get it?

welcome. :)

here's my advice ~
if you've seen videos, then you probably have a visual step by step guide already. the only other thing would be to get a copy of the factory manual (or get the Haynes or Chilton manuals). nothing else will make any more sense until you pull it apart and start a rebuild for yourself. it can be time-consuming, but it's all relatively simple - simpler than a piston engine.

the tranny and rear end are pretty reliable and they stand up to some decent power upgrades without fault - unless they're grossly abused by you! maintain them and use common sense and they will not break.

about the car itself, the best thing to do is get a beverage of your choice and search the Gen II forum for whatever questions you may have. there is A LOT of crap there, but there is also A LOT of good information to be gleaned.

this issue with your dad and getting the car is up to you ...
