13B FD exhaust sleeve removal?
 
Is there a neat trick I am missing to get the roll pins out of the rotor housing so you can take out the exhaust sleeves. I want to swap the ones in my 20B for 13B ones. Let me know!

spot weld onto the pin end, grab some vice grips and clamp down hard on the blob, twist and pull.

i reuse the pin too by hammering it back into the sleeve and centering it, grind the welded material flush with the rotor housing. won't ever walk on you either or get wobbly.

I found some threads in the end last night.. I am going to try drilling and tapping first as I can get my hands on all the bits easy. To MIG weld it I need to take all the stuff to my folks. Can you show a pictures of what you weld ? Does it not damage the rotor housing? A spot welder that you could fuse a little rod onto the dowel with would be ideal I reckon?!

drilling and tapping is a pain in the ass, i've tried it but the pin just tends to spread and bite into the housing causing the hole to deform if you even manage to get the pin out.

i don't know about a spot welder, the easiest way is with a mig welder. it does take a tiny bit of the aluminum with it around the pin but not enough to worry about. it is still the easiest and best way.

easy peasy and takes about a minute instead of pulling your hair out with screws and drill bits.

If worried about the housing get a small flat piece of aluminum drill a hole in it place it between the housing and mig weld through the hole to the roll pin. Works perfect no burns into the housing and the hole acts like a guide just throw a blob through it and then pull out with some vise grips.

the coolant seal channel is about half an inch away so you'd have to be a bit sloppy to go that far.

I see in that link someone else mentions about TIG? I would be worried the heat for steel would blow away the ally around it? Seems like everyone has their own way! Horses for course and all.
What size filler rod are you using when sticking it to the roll pin? I only have 1/16" I think. Stainless wire and mild steel wire.
Also I know how tig hates contamination. Does it not explode in your face when you arc up with all the grime around there?
I might give it a go like that.
Do you then grind the welded bit off and I presume carefully retain the length of the roll pin? I am guessing they are just a standard off the shelf size in anyway?

i haven't tried a tig on them, there's really no need to get fancy with it anyways and the mig makes short work of it. if tig is all you have then i can't offer any suggestions as i haven't tried to tig on steel enclosed in aluminum.

I can get my hands on MIG just not at home.. Someone else mentioned TIG on a different thread I think.
