13b engine size
I am thinking about converting my mgb to rotary power. I just love the power and feel of the rotary engine. Before I invest a few grande in a front clip from a japanese rx7 I was wondering if anyone had the physical dimensions of a 13b. I know my engine bay is plenty long for a rotary but for some reason I am thinking they are overly wide. People drop chevy 350s and such in them all the time so it shouldnt be a problem but I would still like to know. I really dont want to have to do any frame rail mods.

if you can fit a 350 in there I would think you could fit a 13b. They aren't all that big.
|
Also I would be willing to purchase a dead 13b and manual tranny if anyone has one laying around.

If its a turbo... and you won't be running accessories such as power steering, a/c... just a waterpump and alternator.... its tiny!
Look at some pics of some 'heavily' modded turbo IIs that are running just what they need for the engine to work. It's insane how small the powerplant is. Sorry I don't have any actual dimensions for ya, but if you can fit a 350.... you'll fit a 13B with NO problem. |
...
well what i heard was the base of the engine is wide compared to most...like the oil pan area.
|
lol, compared to a piston engine a rotary is a tiny box...
the only thing that makes a rotary it's common size is the intake/exhaust and emissions components, you can manipulate the engine size with varying aftermarket parts though. the engine is only about 16" wide, 20 or so inches long and about 20 iches tall, it is abut the same size as a small block chevy short block (heads removed). |
...
well 16 inches is pretty wide for an oil pan ya know...I will get out and measure tomorrow...that should be fine.
