13b cosmo

So after a long research I've decided to do a 13b Cosmo swap in my fd the only thing is what mods would I have to do to the motor mounts and the throttle body should be a 20b any insight or has anyone does this mod let me know thanks!

There is one guy doing it in the 3rd Gen section. It's a lot more work than just the mounts. What's the purpose or you goal of the swap?

rxbaby7 11-30-14 12:38 PM

I originally wanted a 20b but the weight ratio didn't add up so I did my search on the 13b Cosmo and seen superrob friend Nelson on YouTube with a bridgeported 13b Cosmo I fell in love

Where is that thread where I can see what he's done thanks bro

Read thru this thread first
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...ne-7-a-972222/

Then read thru the linked threads in that thread. You'd be smart to not do the swap unless you are a skilled fabricator.

the easier way would be to put the Cosmo intakes on the REW block, as they bolt right on, and you don't need to make engine mounts

I heard the holes don't line up in a few post on the forum but do you anyone that has done it let me know

silverTRD 12-01-14 02:46 PM

I'm in the process of doing it now. There are a few things to be done but it's straight forward and a helluva lot easier than than swapping a re motor in.

The bolt holes all line up on the lower intake manifold to the block. Perhaps you read the Uim of the cosmo doesn't line up with the Lim of the rew, which is true. But that's why you use the Lim of the cosmo as well. The porting on the cosmo irons is larger so those will need ported or there will be no benefit to swapping over.

The hardest part is the tps and throttle cable if you plan to use the cosmo tb. I'm running a Rotary works tb for a rew and an adapter I'm cnc'ing
for ease. If you have more questions just ask.

RE bolts right up to REW engine, only thing is you will need to port the runners as RE ports are about 3/8 bigger. You will need a custom oil filler neck to make it easier. You can use the REW TB but you will have to seal with epoxy or weld the IAC runner on the UIM TB mounting face.

I also had to cut 1/4" of my aftermarket engine mount pucks in order to clear the hood and strut bar.

Reason why you need custom oil filler neck, RE UIM is shorter than REW so by the time you install the Elbow it will hit the factory filler neck.

If you want to keep Idle control you will need to use the Cosmo TB as is built to the TB not the UIM like in the REW, if you don't care about idle control the easiest way will be to use the REW TB and epoxy the IAC runner on the RE Cosmo UIM like picture below

Attachment 634692

Picture below shows the RE TB on a REW intake see the gap that's not cover by REW UIM, that will cause a vacuum leak, will be the same if you use the REW TB on the RE Cosmo UIM but the vacuum will be on the UIM side , reason why epoxy or welding required.
