12a Nikki removal and Weber 48IDA install
 

Hello everyone!
I'm working on my 85 rx7 and I'm having trouble removing the carb. The stock nikki just seems like a mess of vacuum lines and solenoids and I can't even find the bolts to remove the carb itself. I have searched far and wide and haven't been able to find anything on removing the carb (probably because it should be straightforward:P) and I've decided to ask you all here on what is the best way to do it. The emissions system on my car is blocked off, I have all the electrical connections off, the throttle and choke cables off, and the fuel lines off.
Also I was wondering what vacuum lines I need to keep. A lot of the time on cars running different carbs, I see nothing running the ignition timing. Without vacuum lines running to the solenoids on the distributor, how does the timing work.

Let me know if you have any other questions or need any information about the current state of my car.

Just remove the intake manifold with the carb attached. There are 4 bolts and two nuts that attach the intake manifold to the engine. These can be found below the barb/above the exhaust manifold. There not hard to get to but you will need to use and extension or two on the ratchet.

You will need to remove the intake anyway if your installing a Weber. You'll need a new intake gasket and two water passage O-rings (unless your planing on blocking them off with 20mm freeze plugs).

I have to ask, what is the inspiration on replacing the carb with a weber?

I already bought a new gasket and freeze plugs.
What about all the vacuum lines that run the ignition timing and everything else? just leave it? are they needed?
My inspiration for running a weber is because its what i have and its in good condition. I sold some parts and a guy threw in the carb along with cash. He ran it on a 12a so I figured I give it a try. Just a fun project to create some more power! My car already has a full exhaust so i think I'm ready for the huge weber carb.

Hey again!
after figuring out i have to take the carb and intake off all at once (thanks KansasCityREPU!) i got the freeze plugs installed.
Next I have ran into the issue of the vacuum lines; what do i do with them and how do i run solenoids on the distributor? Or do I even need those?
Luckily i do have some time to figure this out as I'm fabricating a part I need for the carb.

I have the same problem. Kinda. I just Yanked everything out (rookie mistake) and I have a couple things I don't know where they plug into. I took out ALL the solenoids and right now it's just fuel pressure regulator carb and throttle cable and some oil lines. I have no idea what to do with the 2 plugs by the oil tower and my vent fuel line. (I left the return line alone because weber don't have them right?). If you git it figured out help ya boy out!

What a lot of people do is completly remove that system by tapping threads and blocking it off. its what i plan on doing!
Then you just run pre mix 1:100 to keep the apex seals lubed!
