RZ Recaro Seats?
so this may have been beaten to death but i gotta ask since im search impaired xD
do the RZ seats or the Spirit R seats lower you position in the car? at the moment, i have the stock seats in my 94 and when i try to heel toe my knee hits the steering wheel, so im looking for good stock seats that will allow me to move my knee under the steering wheel? Id like to try to keep the stock steering wheel for the airbag for insurance purposes at the moment. |
I got the Spirit R Recaros with the tilt function through Ramy and you can set it so that your knees are lower and dont hit the steering wheel.
I absolutely love the seats, I had been lusting after the for YEARS and Ramy came through in a big way. They've gotten more comfortable as I've broken them in too, I love 'em :icon_tup: |
tilt function? whats that?
and how much did the pair cost? |
Not all sets of the seats come with it, but the tilt function basically is like a hinge that is located right under your booty that allow you to pivot the front of the seat (where your thighs and knees are) upwards or downwards in four positions.
As for the price..... http://www.fdnewbieimports.com/Backu...ct3pic.php?n=3 |
oh MAN id love those... yeah...
so its the front where your knees sit on that pivots? and they were the same price for the pair as the regular ones? |
No the whole seat pivots since its one piece. You will get more knee room for heel-toe if you move to the very first spot. However, it may be somewhat uncomfortable as your back is basically leaning vertical and the seat bottom at a right angle. It depends on your proportions. I'm 6' 2" with long, muscular legs and cannnot properly heel-toe this car. If I move the seat to the first tilt function I get some knee room even with my 350mm steering wheel, but I lose some length to the pedals as you are shortening the distance. To make matters worse, I have a size 13 foot! I keep mine at the #2 pos. when autocrossing and #3 for regular driving. The are 4 positions in total. But like Rich said, these seats are AWESOME!!!
|
I've had the honor of sitting in these seats on 2 occasions and they are worth every penny.
I like to think of these seats as pretty much an engine rebuild. For the price they go for you could get your engine redone. So if you ever find an RZ or Spirit R without these seats in them...I'm sure the owner traded these seats in return for a rebuild lol |
I personaly know how nice these/my seats feel :) :) :)

Hitokiri, as mentioned above, you'll get some additional clearance with these seats. It's not just the tilt function, but also because the seat skeleton is very thin, and the padding is much less (yet still comfortable) than the US seats. So even though the seat itself may be almost the same size as the stock US seats, you physically sit a bit lower in the car by sitting in these seats. Make sense?
Oh and one more thing. I completely understand your concern re: the stock wheel w/ airbag. If space is an issue, I'd definitely also consider the OEM wheels with airbags (see here: http://www.fdnewbieimports.com/Backup/products.php) that are a bit smaller than stock. So you still are using an OEM piece, still using an airbag, but are gaining a bit of clearance since the steering wheels in later years were a bit smaller in diameter. And I remember, my biggest problem in the FD was the same as yours; my knees hitting the steering wheel ;) Thanks, ~Ramy FDNewbie Imports |

As they say big Rich, what goes around comes around. I was merely trying to return the favor :) |

I took the measurements years ago, so this off memory, but IIRC, you can gain/lose (depends on how you look at it haha) about 1.25" with the seats, and another 4/10" with the steering wheel, putting the total at about 1.75".
|
aright, that sounds doable
so then my question comes down to, what kind of price am i going to be looking at for a single seat for the drivers side? |
About half of that for the pair. Solo seats tend to go between $1,500 - $1,800. I charge more for them because they're harder to find alone, as breaking up a set leaves me with a solo passenger seat that's hard to sell alone. BUT, I believe I MAY have a solo seat in stock...

Grab it while you can, these seats are becoming impossible to find......
|
Hope this isn't considered thread jacking but how much would one expect to pay for a pair now a days?

hmm.. okay, if they're becoming so difficult to find.. how long should we expect to wait for a set? :)
|
Depends on when you purchase. I have a shipment arriving any day now, and I should have a set up for grabs...for now.
